Did You Know....?

If you were to cut up your stash, how much fabric would you need to make your own bundle?

Jelly Rolls- 2 1/2" strips, cut the WOF. Normally there are 40 strips equaling the need for approx. 2 3/4 + yards.

Charm Packs- 5" squares usually having 40 squares. Equaling the need for approx. 1 1/8 + yards.

Layer Cake- 10" x 10" squares usually having 40 squares. Equaling the need for approx. 2 3/4 + yards.

Fat Rolls- 5" wide strips by the WOF. Usually having 40 strips equaling the need for approx. 5 1/2 + yards.

Turnovers- 6" triangles usually having 40 triangles. Equaling the need for 1 yard.

Sweet Rolls- 1 1/2" strips by the WOF. Usually having 40 strips. Equaling the need for 1 3/4 yards.

WOF-Width of fabric--selvage to selvage.
+-Meaning you might need slightly more.
All commercially bundles are sold from a coordinating fabric line.

You might be wondering why the need for these numbers?
I am working on several projects that require either background or coordinating fabric in the same yardage as the bundle packs and I thought if I needed these numbers--you might too!

  1. Thanks Helen I have often wondered about the amount needed, it is a much better way to buy pre cut and toned, in OZ many shops will not cut under 1/4 of a metre or don't cut an 1/4 square; so it makes it quiet expensive when many of our fabrics cost up to $30.00 a metre. Cheers Glenda

  6. Thanks for figuring these out. Its good info to know when shopping too. For example a Jelly roll selling for 40.00 doesn't seem like such a bargain when you figure its about 14.50 a yard.
