A Lovely Year of Finishers-January 2014

Well Almost Finished!
In upstate New York while on a retreat,
I started this quilt.

It then moved to my design wall
for several months.

It is such a simple quilt--
so why is it taking forever to finish?

As of today, this is the quilt top.
It is not quilted, and that is fine.
The plan is to piece the bits of fabric
that are left for the backing.
I want to quilt this when I am not on
 a deadline.

Ironically isn't this what the assignment
 is
 A Deadline!

What A Combo....WIP & Fear!

If I sat and stared at Riley Blake long enough--
some idea will come--Right?
Ahhh NO!---The only thing I got was Fearful!

This is how I felt.
Less that sweet smile.
(Thank You, Denise-I love her!)

So...what is one to do?
Put on music, pour wine, graph a plan and slice away.

At this point I had to say
"It Is What It Is"
Riley Blake Challenge has been a WIP and
a real challenge--
For me!

So I am now turning the bend--
the binding will go on and so will I.
(stay tuned-in for binding completion  this week)

Which leads into a great post today from
Lissa at ModaLissaBlogSpot on Fear which you can read here.

This is my reply comment to Lissa's post:
FEAR NOT---I have been following for awhile and enjoy all that you have posted. As time is ticking on in life I have been finding my personal voice and rolling with it. If people don't care for what I post-they have the right to unsubscribe and click away. I never want to offend or be offended--what's the saying "Play Nice!" Usually if you are thinking it--so is the majority out in Blog Land. So sharing is Great! Plus I love reading tidbits of the personal lives--I get to know them better! Like I know you more today than yesterday and that is a good thing! Hi I am Helen--can you come out and play?

So does fear get in your way?
When I am not looking fear has a way of creeping in.

Something to think about.
You've only got three choices in life: Give up, give in or give it all you've got.

I Am One Proud Momma!

Watch This--Enlarge & Listen!
Filmed by our boys last week!
Oldest in blue/yellow   Youngest in Black/Gray

A little background!
After a couple of years and a few hiccups in life,
we were gifted with two incredible boys.
That was 23 and 19 years ago.
During their journey to become men they were given a few obstacles,
some not so easy and some recently to overcome.

These detours has made them men!
The oldest graduates with a Master's Degree in the spring
and the youngest recently completed his Helicopters' Private Pilots test.
(he can fly the helicopter in the YouTube).

The trip to Whistler was our graduation gift to them!!
They deserved it!
And I just had to share!

Ahoy There Matey!

~Joey's Grandma Adventures~

She added borders onto this cute panel.

And I added a few details.

Rope and waves.

 And a Fun Back!!

 Traveling!
This bright and cheery fabric had a coordinating back.

But leave it to Joey--she added a map!
The fabric had shapes that looked like jacks--so they are quilted as a all-over!

Hip To Be Square!

This gem was started on a retreat in
Watkins Glen, New York by Diane.

Having had a few years of experience, Diane
took the leap with a bed quilt for herself.

Seen here, she is cutting with precision!

The "Square In A Square" came out beautiful!

Thanks Barb!

Barb of Mountain Quiltworks Blogspot and I collided a few years back while blogging.
After chatting on the phone, she left me
having a blog crush--is that weird to say!
There's alot of similarities in our
lives and that might be one of the reasons
I can relate so well with her--the word that might
come to her mind is stalking--ha-ha!
Anyway, I am going to follow her lead on this whole New Year Goal thing.

My Button

Putting this out there gives me
hope that I will hold myself accountable and commit.
The guide lines are simple--so I am Good!

Mr. Happy Bird With Balls (and without)!

Yes, you read it right!

My "Happy Bird With Balls"
The pattern had appliqued balls. However I wanted to keep the quilt up during all the winter months, so the balls hang from buttons attached to the branches.
I also changed them, by cutting up a doilies from the thrift shop.

As of today "My Happy Bird" is ball-less
for the remainder winter months.
(the photo looks a bit bland but it is perfect for the winter)

My first attempt at this style of snow flakes.
I need a bit more time on getting those down, but it is all mine.
So I am Happy!

A few photos!

Birches were raw edged appliqued on the frame.

Was going for chilly background.

Feathers

Mr. Happy Bird was appliqued while flying traveling from New Jersey to Pennsylvania to a neat B & B for a little get-away.

Happy New Year &
