Queen Bee-Carolyn

I have been lucky to discover and become a member of the
Jersey Shore Modern Quilt Guild in
Ocean Grove, NJ.

This months Queen Bee was Carolyn.
Sadly Carolyn a rare and  hard to detect disease call RSD which stands for
Reflex Sympathetic Dystrophy Syndrome.

She asked for her block to be the ribbon color of RSD.  Carolyn's intention is to either put the block into a quilt or individually auction off each block to raise money for awareness and research for this disease that has only begun its research stages.

The block is quit large however I did not measure before giving it to her.

Quilty Gifts!

Over the past few days there has been allot of celebrating.
I am not sure about you, but most years I am in a gift giving funk lacking creativity.

So to share ideas--here is what I have made or was given.

These where for the 3 wonderful board members that sit with me at our meetings!
The cup reads "CAMACO Quilters Inspire!

And even though they are travel mugs,
a mug rug is needed for when they are at the machine.

These are jeweled Stilettos given to a group that I meet with monthly.
These are made with turkey lancers!

This was a Make & Take project I did at our retreat which worked out well since our project consisted of allot of sewing and these are great guiding tools!
Click here for PDF tutorial from Quiltville

I made a few finger pin cushions.
Love mine!

Eye Masks

One side pretty fabric and other side minky!
Click here for eye mask pattern from Prudent Baby
I did use batting in mine.

Our guild had a potholder exchange and I love the one I received from Kathy.
I will use it year around.
Love the ruffle!

A insulated hot pad.
However I will turn it over so I don't dirty the Tomten's (Swedish for Santa).
This comes from my wonderful mom.

I received a great travel case for scissors and a rotary cutter.
Doreen was so creative by cutting out paper scissors--she thought I needed a prop!

Denise made this adorable bobbin tree ornament with a bell!

Elena made the cutest mini scissor holder.
The ribbons work through the handles and you secure it around the button.
Clever!

Donna made a brown sugar body rub and Pam made a peppermint hand-exfoliate.
So that we can pamper ourselves!

Peg made a striking table mat.
Love the colors!

We were to guess this one from Debbie.
We knew the pink pen was a seam ripper.
However the fabric covered medicine case has a magnet at the bottom, this is for the needles
you will throw away and they are secure till you do so.

Sandee is keeping my table look'n good with a set of coasters.

Gail made a potholder that is perfect in my kitchens!

Joan made this adorable pincushion that is a flower on a
golf tee that sits in a spool of thread!

Thank You everyone for the thoughtful gifts!
And I hope this helped for Christmas's to come or you can hurry and make for this year!

15 Quilty Resolutions for 2015

15 Quilty Resolutions for 2015

Yvonne at Quilting Jet Girl is at it again! She is guiding us to use our noodle! I enjoy taking the time to stop and put the needle down to ponder about the what and the why! So here is my list and might need to refer to it over the next coming year allot!

1.) Do more of my creative projects that I have been putting on the back burner. This is my number one goal!

2.) Take more personal time for me. Since life has thrown a few curve health issues--it is not all about everyone else anymore.

3.) Use what I have-Learn and discover the pile of tools, books, patterns etc.. that have been patiently waiting for me to arrive.

4.) Tackle a fear! This little nugget of wisdom has been helping me for years but the list never ends! And that is OK too.

5.) Prepare ahead of time! Weather it be for Christmas, birthdays , baby or wedding showers etc.....

6.) Lay Off being so... hard on myself! Need I say more-you all do it too!

7.) Discover my Techy toys. I have only tapped into the potential of their uses.

8.) Always find the positive! I really don't have to learn this--just keep doing it!

9.) Keep referring to the book "Eat That Frog". LOVE IT!

10.) Being present and aware.

11.) Sometimes close is good enough. This has been a rough on to tackle.

12.) Remember that my children are adults. They are smart and intelligent and will be fine.

13.) Go to bed every night and reflect on what I am Grateful for! Their is allot.

14.) Wake every morning and reflect on what I am Grateful for! Even more than allot.

15.) Re-Read this list a million times!

What I Have Learned!

"Ronald's Flight"
If you persist-- your vision will materialize.
If you Love who it is for--you will enjoy every step of the way.
I can see that I have come along way since starting this journey.

"Swedish Double Chain"
Given a challenge--I am discovering that is my favorite way to quilt.
I can take a traditional design and put a spin on it.
Using what you have is so rewarding.
Friends are such wonderful encouragement.

 "Swirly Whirly Milky Way"
My first chance at rejection--but I came out a winner.
I can play with the big girls.
I am not that bad.

What I have learned from not being accepted at Quilt Con.

After seeing so many wonderful submissions that where not accepted-
I know I am not alone. #quiltconreject #rejectedfromquiltcon
I know my quilts are good-so I won't stop here.
The people that really count-are always there.
By putting yourself out there-so many new wonderful things have happened.
And as I tell my kids! You have WON if you tired!

Here is a wonderful article that is floating around by Latifah Saafir
