The Stars Were Aligned!

A few months ago I spotted this photo on Quilting Mod blogspot from
when she was at Quilt Market.
I wanted it and knew I had to get it!

Minutes after entering QuiltCon---guess what was looking right at me!
And can I say that Heather Givan from Crimson Tate is so... incredibly nice!

The designer of this free pattern called Succulent Path is by Sarah at No Hats In The House blogspot.

My dilemma was that yardage was not being sold until mid March.
So.... my buddy Denise from Nini & The Sea blogspot and I took a road trip to
Rock Scissor Paper in Montclair, NJ.

What a fun place this is!

And just the way it is suppose to be-------
Rock Scissors Paper had the full line plus lots of yardage for my background!

So from first seeing this quilt back in November, traveling to Austin, Texas
and hiking up the road--- the Succulent Path has been gathered!
It may take awhile to complete but that will be another wonderful Journey too!

Swedish Double Chain!

On our recent retreat our project was the Double Irish Chain (DIC).
The organizer of the retreat, in bypassing asked a question wondering if
the traditional DIC could be done in a Modern version.

HUM?
This was my version of a DIC which I am calling the

Swedish Double Chain!

The top is pieced exactly like a DIC except I used a jelly roll of off whites.
The photos show a heavy yellow tint which is not that prominent in person.

After the top was pieced I quilted the quilt before adding the hexagons.

On a previous retreat, I purchased these squares.
And recently was wondering what to do with them.

So I basted 135 hexagons.

I thought it was more eye appealing to have a single line of hexi's verses two,
however the off white background is still a double chain.

With input from fellow retreat goers, the borders were decided on
however I wanted them to be unusual as well, by having two sides
different from the other two sides.

I am very happy with the outcome!

Modern Quilting Has Moved In! (Tut. Link)

Modern quilting has arrived and it will be staying! Or at least at my house it will.
The clean and crisp look leaves lots of negative space for
quilting, quilting, and more quilting.

This is my beautiful, talented, smart and crafty niece!
She and her future husband attended the
University Of Florida and are dedicated fans.
The fabric above is the Gator school colors.

She received two lap quilts.

One in each of the 2 color ways.
I did both quilts Chevron style. Here you can get a great
Free PDF from Shannon Fabrics
on how to make chevrons and the pattern.
The blocks can be made any size.

Here are the completed quilts.
For each quilt I put the other color as the binding.

My mother in-law winters in Florida, where Gator Fleece is very accessible.
She wanted my niece to have a gift with this fleece.
So.... What is one to do?
As most quilters know--fleece can be a challenge to sew on.
However when I first started long arming I came across a post that fleece can be a great piece to practice on loading, the issue of stretching,
and learning to do a all-over consistently.
So I layered the Gator fleece and added royal blue fleece to the back. After marking off the borders that would be tied later,
I did a all over of meandering on one (his) and a allover of hearts (hers).
My sons girlfriend was nice enough to tie the borders for me.
